New Melee Weapon Special Ability
Weightless Wielding A secret passed down from the Asgardian Dwarves, a weapon becomes weightless
while in the wielder's hands. This can be any wielder or only those “attuned” to the weapon as its “owner”
or even a set of gauntlets which can endow the weightless wielding special ability to a any weapon or just a single weapon
(Thor's Hammer, for example).
The effect of this ability is that the weight of the weapon is doubled for everything and everyone with the exception of the
wielder, to whom it is weightless. This translates into the weapon doing twice the dice in damage to physical foes. It's
a matter of mass and momentum being doubled for the weapon. Any pluses from the weapon quality or magical enhancement are
not doubled. Strength bonuses from the wielder are not doubled.
A material that takes full advantage of this magical amplification of applied force is gold. Gold has a hardness of 9 and
20 hit points per inch. But it's weight is over 2.5 times that of the same amount of iron or steel. This increases the damage
from a gold weapon to x4 the normal dice rolled using the weightless wielding enhancement.
Example Weapon:
Masterwork +1 Gold Weightless Wielding Longsword Damage: 4d8 +1, weight: 20 pounds
Value: 1000 gp in raw material for gold, + 315 gp masterwork, plus 72,000 gp base value (weightless wielding is as a +6
bonus, p. 222 in DMG). Total: 73315 gp
